Community ServiceThe Norman Howard School is committed to helping students realize the importance of giving back to the community. The Community Service Program is part of the 12th grade Participation in Government/Economics Curriculum. The program's goal is to promote citizenship by giving students opportunities to participate in activities that benefit the community and increase our students' understanding and appreciation of its diversity. Each year, Mr. Koffenberger and Mrs. Lindley coordinate a variety of community service activities for our senior class.
Adopt-A-Highway
The Norman Howard School sponsors a portion of Clover Street through the Adopt-A-Highway program. Twice a year our seniors head out to do their part to help keep Rochester beautiful!
Community Clean-up
For the past several years our 12th graders have paired up with our 5th and 6th graders to perform a neighborhood "Community Clean-up" the week of Thanksgiving break. Students rake and bag leaves, trim branches and pack up summer patio furniture for our elderly NHS neighbors. Often times during the school year Mr. Koffenberger may get a call for assistance from one of our neighbors and our senior class is eager to do what they can to help out!
Salvation Army's Red Kettle Drive
Each year during the holiday season our 12th graders spend part of the school day ringing bells for the Red Kettle Drive to help raise money to fund social and seasonal programs for the Salvation Army.
Salvation Army's Toy Shop
Seniors spend a day at the Salvation Army Toy Shop assisting families in need with holiday shopping. Students choose from a variety of "jobs"; such as helping families pick out gifts for their children, restocking shelves, loading gifts into cars or putting together food baskets.
