Curriculum Integration

Technology is integrated across the curriculum so that all students are prepared to function appropriately in our technological society, and to use those tools in their pursuit of lifelong learning. While the main emphasis of utilizing technology is to facilitate learning in each content area, specific technology goals are embedded in the curriculum at all grade levels:

  • Communication - use technology effectively and creatively, including
    • Graphics programs
    • Word processing while following the writing process
    • Databases and spreadsheets to collect, manipulate, and interpret data
    • Cognitive mapping software to organize thoughts and plan work
    • Use of audio and video equipment
    • Create multimedia presentations to share new knowledge
  • Information Processing – use technology to access, retrieve, evaluate and interpret visual and/or auditory information
    • Access and retrieve electronic information using the Internet and effective search strategies
    • Develop skills to select and use appropriate technologies
    • Develop proficient keyboarding skills and/or use of alternative input devices
    • Operate peripheral devices (printers, scanners, digital cameras, etc.)
    • Practice and reinforce content area skills
    • Explore new concepts using simulations
    • Research and problem solve
  • Productivity – use technology to maximize productivity and effectiveness
    • Enhance the development of basic skills including reading, writing, arithmetic, listening, and speaking
    • Develop and apply strategies for problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making
    • Develop creativity and innovation
    • Develop visualization and metacognitive skills using cognitive mapping software
    • Display responsibility, self-esteem, sociability, self-management, integrity and honesty
