About the event
Many students need support to manage anxiety and distress imposing barriers to their academic success. The Norman Howard School is pleased to partner with Dr. James Wallace, Associate Clinical Professor at URMC in Psychiatry and Pediatrics and board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, to provide parents with strategies for addressing school-related anxiety including:
- School Refusal
- Anxiety Behaviors
- Struggles Connecting With Teachers and Peers
Today's children and teens battle a variety of social and emotional problems that cause distress. Anxiety has risen to the top of these concerns because it interferes with healthy development and school performance. School-based anxiety is difficult to address because school avoidance and absenteeism makes intervention challenging; it tends to "snowball" and become overwhelming for families and schools alike. Dr. Wallace will describe anxiety and how it manifests in school, and discuss approaches and interventions to reduce the distress it causes.
