Katherine Schied-Deckert

Teacher Assistant

585-334-8010 x 318

I am very grateful for having the privilege of being an alumnus of the Norman Howard School. The faculty’s dedication and application of best practices in education helped me become who I am today. I am honored to be part of a team that has a profound impact on the lives of the students both in and out of the classroom.

Ms. Schied-Deckert, has worked with a wide range of ages and in various settings. Before working at NHS, she worked for several years in early childhood education working with students between the ages of 18 months to 5 years old. Her teaching experience includes three summers as a ceramic arts instructor at a leadership academy in Culver, Indiana. She taught middle/high school students from across the U.S.A. and countries from around the world. She has worked in the activities/therapeutic recreation departments at Senior Living centers. She has experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

Regardless of her role, she believes promoting social-emotional learning is essential for a student’s healthy development and overall well-being. She embraces even the smallest amount of growth, and she values a strength-based, person-centered approach.

She lives in Rochester, NY with her husband. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, being outside, watching tv/movies, and listening to music. She enjoys many different creative outlets; such as decorating her home and creating her artwork.
